SASS, along with nurses from Addington Hospital,  DPKISMH & KZN Ostomate will be hosting this conference aimed at both Clinicians and Ostomates. 

Between 08:30 and 12:30 the program will be directed at clinicians. Clinicians Include:

  • Surgical Registrars,
  • Nursing staff in surgical and pediatric

    • Theatre and Recovery Departments,
    • Outpatient clinics

  • Wound care clinic RN’s and staff,

The Afternoon session (13:45 – 16:00) is catered to the NEEDS OF THE OSTOMATE but will also have relevance to the Physiotherapy and Bio kineticists working with Stoma Patients

Topics of Discussion will include:

  • Management of Anorectal Malformations in Pediatric patients 
  • Early detection of Cancer in the Colorectal Patient – Dr Shakeel Kader
  • Surgical Challenges in Ostomy Creation – Dr Zaheer  Moola
  • Post operative Wound Management of the complicated, multiple traumas, open abdomen with fistulae formation 
  • Nutritional management of short bowel syndrome, Refeeding of these patients in critical care, and its effects on healing of the anastomotic surgery and fistula recovery.
  • Pouching Systems – They are not interchangeable & One Size Does Not Fit ALL
